The PDAC Convention is the world’s leading event for companies and organizations in, or connected with, mineral exploration and finance. Aboriginal Program at PDAC 2017 |
Planning for the 2017 Aboriginal Program is underway, and we are pleased to announce that Chief Dr. Robert Joseph, Ambassador for Reconciliation Canada, will deliver the keynote at the foundational session at the Aboriginal Forum. The forum will focus on Reconciliation—The New Context for Relationship Building in Canada. The full schedule will be available January, 2017. PDAC appears before Standing Committee on Natural Resources |
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources has undertaken a study on the Future of Canada’s Oil and Gas, Mining and Nuclear Sectors: Innovation, Sustainable Solutions. PDAC presented to the Committee on the evolving landscape related to Aboriginal communities and the minerals industry in Canada. Learn more. |

Review of environmental assessment |
The Government of Canada is undertaking a review of federal environmental and regulatory processes. The Minister of Environment and Climate Change established an Expert Panel to undertake the review and submit a report by March 31, 2017, which will be available for public comment. The Government will review the Expert Panel’s report and recommendations to consider options for potential legislative, regulatory or policy changes. Learn more. |

PDAC appears before Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans |
On December 6, PDAC presented to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans, to lead the federal government’s review of the Fisheries Act. Learn more. |

Industry continues to see improvement |
Mining equities continued to rebound in November, with S&P Global’s aggregate market value of industry’s listed companies rising to almost US$1.22 trillion, its highest since June 2015. In exploration finance, after falling sharply in October, the number of financings by junior and intermediate companies rebounded to 181 in November, up from 168 the previous month, but still far from a high of 304 in June. The total amount raised rose 41% to US$563 million from US$400 million in October. Learn more. |

Call for abstracts: PDAC-SEG Student Minerals Colloquium |
PDAC has partnered with the NSERC-CMIC Footprints Network, the Goodman School of Mines, and the Society of Economic Geologists Canada Foundation to sponsor the Annual Student Minerals Colloquium at the PDAC 2017 Convention. This event—hosted by the SEG Student Chapters at Laurentian University and the Ottawa-Carleton Geoscience Centre—will feature 100 poster presentations highlighting current research on mineral deposits and related studies by students from across North America. Students working on projects with a link to mineral deposits are encouraged to submit their posters by January 6, 2017. Learn more. |
