Advocacy

PDAC applauds Government of Canada's infrastructure plan
The Fall Economic Statement announced exciting plans for the establishment of a Canada Infrastructure Bank, something PDAC has advocated for since 2013. In his latest blog, PDAC President Bob Schafer applauded the development of this important initiative that is part of the Federal Government’s nation-building infrastructure plan. The Canada Infrastructure Bank is a way to develop and unlock the resource potential of northern and remote Canada. Learn more.

PDAC advocates for 2017 Budget recommendations
On October 17, PDAC staff and members travelled to Ottawa for a roundtable with the Honourable Jim Carr, Minister of Natural Resources to discuss challenges facing the mineral exploration and development sector. This was followed by an infrastructure workshop about mineral deposits in remote and northern Canada that remain undeveloped due to extreme operating costs. A recent study commissioned by PDAC Unlocking northern resource potential: The role of infrastructure was launched as part of this workshop. The following day, PDAC and its members met with Members of Parliament to advocate for the association’s 2017 pre-budget recommendations to raise awareness about the need to maintain the current flow-through share system, renew the Mineral Exploration Tax Credit (METC), and invest in northern and remote infrastructure to support resource development. Supportive feedback was received for these events. PDAC will continue advocacy efforts until Budget 2017 is tabled.
