TAX POLICY
Mining incentives made permanent
British Columbia’s provincial government intends to make the Mining Flow-Through Share (MFTS) tax credit and Mining Exploration Tax Credit (METC) permanent. The MFTS is an income tax credit granted to investors for the purchase of flow-through shares from a B.C. mining or exploration company, and the provincial METC is a refundable credit for grassroots exploration.

Special thanks to Paul Lefebvre, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Sudbury, for delivering opening remarks.

Vote for your PDAC Board
Members were sent an email with a personalized link to the 2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM) Notice and Board of Directors election ballot. Voting closes 9:00 am (EST) on February 26. Results will be announced at the AGM on March 3 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC), Room 202, North Building. If you did not receive your personalized link to vote, email Mark McCleary.

HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
2019 Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award
Andrew Steiner from the University of British Columbia is this year’s recipient. His research aims to map auriferous fluid pathways, identify the salient geological controls on fluid flow and assess the physiochemical evolution of ore fluids in the CTGDs of the Nadaleen trend, Yukon. The award will be presented at the PDAC 2019 Convention’s Student-Industry Networking Luncheon.
Bursary for advancement in mineral industry
Rebecca Montsion of Laurentian University and James Kidder of Queen’s University are the inaugural recipients of the Joan Bath and Peter Howe Bursary for Advancement in the Mineral Industry. CSA Global and PDAC announced the award in 2018 to encourage geoscientists and mining engineers to advance the economic aspects of the industry through research in Canada.
Events for students and early-career professionals
The Student & Early Career Program is expanding with two new events. Flash Mentoring connects participants with industry professionals while Deal or no deal: the art and science of project strategy challenges participants to think strategically about the decisions they should make to move an exploration project forward.
S-IMEW 2019 participants announced
Meet the 26 geoscience students from universities across Canada that will participate in PDAC’s 13th annual Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW) in Sudbury from May 2-16. The workshop includes a four-day field trip to Val d’Or and Rouyn-Noranda. Sponsorship opportunities available.
