The PDAC 2016 Convention is already more than two months behind us and it was Executive Director Andrew Cheatle's second year attending since joining the association. Read his latest blog for a recap of the event through his eyes along with some of the highlights.

The highly successful event left many feeling optimistic about the outlook for the future of our industry. This was encouraged by rising gold prices and more than 22,000 attendees from 125 countries. Learn more.

Deciding how land withdrawals are made
A set of principles was put forward by PDAC to the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development to guide how decisions about land withdrawals are made. The principles advocate for the inclusion of mineral potential in all decision-making processes. Speaking notes are available on our website. Learn more.

Annual Mineral Outlook Dialogue
Several PDAC staff attended and participated in the annual Mineral Outlook Dialogue organized by Natural Resources Canada. PDAC Senior Policy Director Nadim Kara moderated a discussion on northern resource development, while Executive Director Andrew Cheatle delivered closing remarks.


Geosciences
Canada's Mineral Statistics Committee
PDAC presented about a pan-Canadian approach for tracking mineral deposit discovery rates at the federal, provincial and territorial Mineral Statistics Committee meeting on May 17. Topics included the size and quality of mineral discoveries in Canada since 1975 and how it compares to other countries on exploration spending and corresponding discoveries. Learn more.

Diamond in the Rough Golf Classic
The 10th annual Diamond in the Rough Golf Classic will be held at Cedar Brae Golf Club on June 16. The Classic is a signature annual event for Mining Matters, raising funds that support innovative educational programming for students, teachers and the public about Earth science, mining and the importance of mineral resources. Participants can look forward to a day of networking, prizes and contests, post-game dinner and silent auction. Learn more.
