PDAC 2014 Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW)

PDAC Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop [S-IMEW]

Geoscience students step out of the classroom and into the realities of the
mineral exploration industry

PDAC hosted the eighth annual Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW) in Sudbury, Ontario from May 3-16. Without the support of our 70 plus industry volunteers, and industry sponsors, twenty six geoscience students from across Canada would not have had this experience which helps their transition from academia to the ‘real world’.

Students participated in an open pit mine tour, smelter tour, mapping exercises and lake sediment sampling, a first for many of them. The multi-faceted nature of the workshop exposes students to all aspects of the industry with a mix of lectures, field exercises, site visits as well as networking with industry professionals to help them lay the foundation for a successful career in the mineral exploration industry.
