2015 PDAC Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW)

PDAC Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop [S-IMEW]

Geoscience students experience the realities of the mineral exploration industry

PDAC hosted the ninth annual Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW) in Sudbury, Ontario from May 2-15. Without the support of our 70 plus industry volunteers, and industry sponsors, twenty six geoscience students from across Canada would not have had this experience which facilitates a smooth transition into the real world of mineral exploration.

Students went 1.7km underground in the LaRonde gold mine, toured the Strathcona Mill, and participated in mapping exercises, geophysical surveys and lake sediment sampling, a first for many of them. The multi-faceted nature of the workshop exposes students to all aspects of the industry with a combination of lectures, field exercises, site visits and networking with industry professionals to help them lay the foundation for a successful career in the mineral exploration industry.
