| GEOSCIENCE & INNOVATION

The term has become ubiquitous in Canadian and global news, but its meaning is not always clear to the general public. PDAC has just released ‘Canada’s Critical Minerals: 101’ to answer some key questions, explore the Association's involvement in national initiatives and highlight what the government is doing to develop these mineral value chains. Read it now and contact us to learn more.

| HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

Time is running out to enter the 2024 NGEA™ Challenge! This international competition gives teams of geoscience students an opportunity to interpret geoscience data and pitch mineralization targets to a panel of industry judges. The top six teams will win a free trip to present at #PDAC2024 and be eligible for up to $14,000 in cash prizes. Get your team together and enter before October 31.

Presented by the Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR), the materials show how we need mining to communicate, live sustainably, innovate and advance workplace diversity and inclusion.

| REGULATORY AFFAIRS

In December 2022, the Ministry of Transportation proposed amendments to the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) that unintentionally increase regulatory burden and create safety risks in mineral exploration. While none was conducted in 2022, additional modifications made in response to recent wildfires have prompted a public consultation period. Read more about the issue and PDAC’s submission to the Minister of Transportation and others.

The federal government is now debating bill C-34, which will amend the Investment Canada Act, presenting new limitations to funding by foreign investors of companies with critical mineral projects. PDAC has some concerns regarding this legislation and submitted a commentary to the House of Commons’ standing committee on Industry, Science and Technology. Read PDAC’s response.
