It is essential for mineral development companies to effectively and meaningfully engage with Indigenous communities prior to and during any exploration and mining activities. PDAC is proud to present two innovative examples of weaving Indigenous Knowledge and western science to achieve collaboration in environmental initiatives. The Ni Hadi Xa initiative and the Citxw Nlaka’pamux assembly are industry-leading, unique examples of honest, mutually respectful collaboration between proponents and communities, successfully combining scientific and traditional knowledge in monitoring, Indigenous-led programs, and promoting Indigenous capacity building with outreach back to the communities.
