Leveraging agreement data in equitable negotiations (integrated with the Sustainability Program)

DATE
Monday, March 4, 2024
LOCATION
Room 714
Over $1.3 billion in payments have been reported between Canadian mines and Indigenous communities since 2018 under the Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act. This data is providing new insights into how benefits are being negotiated across Canada and key factors driving benefit agreement outcomes. This data can help industry benchmark and support ESG (environmental, social and governance) assertions. The data also provides a new pathway for Indigenous communities and proponents to better understand what is “fair” in negotiations and to foster trust and collaboration. The session includes industry and Indigenous leadership perspectives and experience on the benefits of data in planning and negotiations.
