Ontario's Mining Act Modernization Initiative – Phase 3 Update

The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines (MNDM) has decided to move forward with a one-time, mandatory approach to conversion, subject to the enactment of a number of amendments to the Mining Act that are expected to occur sometime in the fall of this year.

All existing (legacy) mining claims in the province would be converted over a 120-day period, tentatively scheduled for the summer of 2017. Tools and Ministry assistance, including training sessions, will be available to mineral industry clients throughout the transition period as well as at conversion.

Geo-referencing is still available for assessment work and is critical for the conversion of claims to cells. If you have claims that have not yet been geo-referenced, you should consider completing this work to guarantee the location of your mining claims upon conversion.
