Presentation Rooms now available for rent for PDAC 2012

New this year, Presentation Rooms located in the North Building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre will be available for rent during PDAC 2012.

A great way to enhance your organization’s visibility, launch a new product, meet with clients or make a presentation, Presentation Rooms will be listed in all pre-show promotion, in the Convention Program, as well as on convention signage.

Renters must make arrangements for their own audio visual, as well as food and beverage needs. A list of Convention suppliers will be provided. Payment in full is required to guarantee a Presentation Room (subject to availability).

The rental fee includes a listing and description on the PDAC Convention website and an email blast to promote your event.

RFP for CSR Event Series at the PDAC 2012 Convention

Interested parties are invited to submit a proposal to organize a half-day session for inclusion in the CSR Event Series at the PDAC 2012 Convention. The Series will highlight practical cases of CSR application by companies involved in mineral exploration and/or mining.

Proposals must be submitted by October 19, 2011.

CanGeoRef launched and available to smaller companies and individuals

The Canadian Federation of Earth Sciences (CFES) and the American Geological Institute (AGI) are pleased to announce the launch of CanGeoRef, which became available Sept.  15, 2011.

With more than 200,000 Canadian Geo-science references, CanGeoRef is a bibliographic database that covers the Canadian Geoscience literature since the early 1800’s.

It is the result of a cooperative arrangement between CFES and AGI to provide GeoRef access to smaller companies and individuals focused on Canadian geosciences.

Individual subscriptions are available for $65.00 a year and those who subscribe before Dec.1, 2011, will receive a 15% discount.

The Women’s Association of the Mining Industry of Canada presents Celebration 90

This year marks the 90th anniversary of the Women’s Association of the Mining Industry of Canada (WAMIC), an organization that continues to provide companionship and foster friendships for women connected to the mining industry by marriage, family or profession.  

Since the 1939s, WAMIC members have also financially supported universities and students seeking careers in mining and have given more than $1.2 million in student awards and charitable donations.

To mark this important milestone, WAMIC is hosting a celebratory luncheon on Thurs., Oct. 20, 20011, at the Islington Golf Club in Toronto. The event takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the cost is $60.

Deadline looms for PDAC Director nominations

Those seeking to join the PDAC’s Board of Directors will have act fast as the deadline for nominations is quickly approaching.

The Board of Directors advances members’ interests, particularly with various governments, and approves the association’s position and policy on all major industry issues. Directors work with professionals from across the country and serve a three-year term. New directors will be elected at the PDAC’s annual meeting in Mar. 2012.

The deadline for nominations is Nov. 15, 2011.

Applications are now available for the Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award

Applications are now available for the prestigious Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award. The award honours the memory of Mary-Claire Ward, a passionate advocate for the geosciences, who died in 2004.  It is intended to support a graduate student in Canada whose thesis will contribute to our knowledge of the geological history of Canada.

The 2012 winner will receive $5,000 – up from last year’s prize of $3,000 – as well as a certificate to be presented at either the annual PDAC Convention in Toronto, March 2012, or the joint annual meeting of the GAC-MAC in St. John’s, Nfld., in May 2012.

Applications are available at PDAC student web site or at the Geological Association of Canada website.

The application deadline is December 15, 2011.
