Convention Travel Funding

The PDAC’s Convention Travel Fund helps student groups with the costs of travelling to Toronto for the annual Convention. Funding is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to student members.

Applications for Convention Travel Funding are now closed.

The Student Minerals Colloquium (SMC) brings together geoscience students and industry professionals to highlight innovative student research on projects essential for the successful evolution of the modern mining industry. 

This event provides industry professionals with an opportunity to support and stay current with ongoing international research from students across the world. Please join us in celebrating future leaders in earth sciences, economic geology, geophysics, environmental sustainability, and experimental studies at this year’s SMC!

This networking event provides a unique opportunity for students, early career individuals, and industry professionals to connect in a relaxed environment. All student attendees will be entered in a draw for tuition top-up awards and the winners of the Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award and the ERM Bursary will be announced, as well as the students selected for the 2023 Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW). 
Must be a student member to be eligible for the draw.

These one-on-one meetings connect students and early career individuals with experienced industry professionals for personalized feedback on their educational and professional careers. 

Participants are welcome to ask questions and discuss topics including (but not limited to): interview and resume tips, job searching, achieving future career goals, education and training advice, careers in the industry, complementary skillsets, Convention pro-tips, and key sessions to attend.

Next Generation Explorers Award (NGEA™)

The NGEA™ was founded in honour of Frank Arnott (1951-2009), an exceptional exploration industry leader who championed innovative techniques that maximized the value of multidisciplinary data underpinning mineral exploration campaigns worldwide.

PRESENTATIONS: The 2023 finalists of this international geoscience student competition will present their submissions on transforming modern, pre-competitive global datasets into their interpretation of the subsurface geology and mineralization targets as well as the winning team of NGEA™ Africa, a regional-based geoscience challenge undertaken in partnership with the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. Teams will compete for a grand prize of CAN $5,000 and three CAN $3,000 prizes for the teams with the highest scores in Innovation, Data Integration, and Impact & Exploration Significance.

Dr. Donald M. Leishman Convention Experience

PDAC is pleased to support the Dr. Donald M. Leishman Convention Experience that provides financial support for five students to attend the PDAC 2023 Convention and exposes them to networking and learning opportunities with industry professionals. 

Eligible students must be enrolled full-time in a geoscience or mining related program at a Canadian post-secondary institution and have never attended the annual PDAC Convention.
