Claire Chamberlain

Claire Chamberlain has ~20 years’ experience supporting ore body knowledge and resource upside characterization around existing assets and delivering into greenfield discovery programs. She has worked on Archean orogenic gold systems in Africa and Eastern Canada, orthomagmatic Ni-Cu/PGE in Africa, carbonate-hosted Zn-Pb environments in Ireland, and alkalic and calc-alkalic porphyry and epithermal systems throughout the Andes, Central America, the Northern Cordillera as well as the Tethyan and MacQuarie Arcs.

Following undergraduate studies at the University of Birmingham, Claire completed a MSc from Leicester University and then spent two years based in Zimbabwe and Botswana working for a Junior company exploring for Au and Ni. She undertook a PhD at Imperial College, London, followed by post-doctoral research at the Mineral Deposit Research Unit at UBC. Her research areas included: geochronology of the Lake Victoria Goldfields, Tanzania; linking mineralogy, physical properties and 3D potential field inversions in exploration for orthomagmatic Ni-Cu systems; and alkalic porphyry and epithermal systems. Claire worked for Teck Resources Ltd, based in Canada, Chile, Ireland and then Chile again, for ~14 years in a range of roles including field-oriented geoscience specialist, project manager, leader of country teams and finally as part of the Exploration & Geoscience Group senior leadership with oversight of exploration in South America. In late 2020, Claire joined Anglo American as Regional Head of Discovery – Americas where she is accountable for execution of greenfield discovery strategy and supporting ore body knowledge initiatives at Operations, driving of leading foundational and innovative geoscience practices, oversight of safe and risk-managed programs and development of diverse and inclusive teams covering Brazil, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Canada, USA and Greenland.
