Gender diversity and inclusion in a community setting

DATE
Tuesday, March 5, 2019
LOCATION
Room 715
Diversity in the mining and mineral exploration industry goes beyond organizational strategies to hire and promote more women or diverse groups. The principles of diversity and inclusion must also be applied to the approach companies take with local communities to ensure they are engaged and included in the company processes and decision-making. When engaging, companies should aim to reach a wide variety of perspectives and groups, particularly the voices that are not always readily at the table or easy to find.

This panel will look specifically at diversity and inclusion in the community context, where mining has a presence. This will include the barriers and challenges as well as some of the strategies and approaches taken by companies and governments to ensure inclusive engagement approaches, gender impact assessments and skill/business development programs aimed at underrepresented groups. Panelists will be sharing both positive and negative experiences, highlighting lessons learnt and best practices.
Organizer: Valerie Pascale, Goldcorp Inc. and the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), Toronto, Canada
