Addressing sexual harassment: Exploring obligations, risks and solutions in Canadian mining

DATE
Wednesday, March 8, 2023
LOCATION
Room 713
Everyone has the right to work in a safe, respectful and welcoming environment. Nevertheless, sexual harassment and violence continue to occur in the mining sector. MiHR's project, “Safe workplaces for all: Addressing sexual harassment in Canadian mining” aims to build sector capacity to support mineral exploration and mining companies to expand their knowledge of, and response to, workplace sexual harassment and violence.

This discussion will highlight the obligations and risks associated with harassment in remote workplaces as well as the opportunities for addressing this issue. General context with respect to the dynamics of workplace sexual harassment/violence and its effect on ESG's social factors will be shared as a means of encouraging sustained dialogue with respect to solutions. Participants will be supported in their own workplaces through materials developed as part of MiHR's project, assisting companies to align with principles related to ESG, responsible exploration and sustainable mining.
