Geophysics has the potential to provide much value to an exploration property when applied properly and fully understood. It is critical that geologists understand the breadth of geophysical exploration options available, and the strengths and limitations of a geophysical method before commissioning a survey, interpreting the results and delineating drill targets. Only through the integration of geophysical results with geology can meaningful results be obtained and targets selected with confidence. This workshop is designed with the geologist in mind; the topics range from regional targeting, belt-scale interpretation to project area and deposit scale applications. Through a series of presentations, exercises and discussions, the material will cover several major geophysical topics including both airborne and ground methods. Topics covered are expected to include: physical rock properties, potential field methods (magnetics and gravity), electromagnetic methods, induced polarisation and resistivity, magnetotellurics and radiometrics. Precompetitive data, the use of drones in geophysical surveying, considerations when contracting or designing an airborne survey, structural interpretation, geophysical inversion, integration and interpretation will also be discussed.
- Broad understanding of major subjects in geophysics
- How to design and QC geophysical surveys, including selecting the right contractor
- Appropriate interpretation of geophysical data in a geological context with the goal of target generation
The course will consist of a series of presentations, exercises and discussions designed to continuously engage the audience throughout the day.
