Chile has made efforts to become a leader in the transformation of the mining sector towards a responsible, traceable and transparent industry; utilizing its strong institutions, solid geological potential, and recognized mining tradition. With hydric efficiency, Chile continues searching for new resources and technological updates that aim to reduce continental water consumption by 45% by 2032; focusing efforts on desalinization. In 2021, 44% of the mining consumption of electricity came from clean sources. Despite this we still face challenges, including those with environmental liabilities, participation, and inclusion of local communities. An important element of our transformation is the design of institutional governance that aims to increase the levels of mining activity legitimacy. This will contribute to improving the position of Chile as a mining country and boost the confidence of investors and citizens.
