Expanding consumption, depleting reserves, lower ore grades, new industrial applications, delays in permitting, lack of capital, poor shareholder returns, and a trend towards deglobalizing, are all pointing to a critical period ahead for metals availability. Some innovative technologies as well as the search for lower emissions will all play into the mine of the future. How this will all be financed and developed will be a major challenge, but solutions are in sight.
