Member Networking Events

 

On September 24, we hosted our second Annual Open House, welcoming more than 75 members who had the chance to experience the Association’s work firsthand. Attendees met PDAC Directors and staff and enjoyed a showcase of minerals and Indigenous art from the Royal Ontario Museum. Thank you for joining us! We’re excited to see our members in Winnipeg and St. John’s this November–stay tuned for more details!

 

| FINANCE

 

PDAC submitted commentary in response to several legislative proposals pertaining to access-to-capital of the mineral sector. This includes a reduction of the eligibility threshold for the Clean Technology Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit, as well as legislation aimed at offsetting the ramifications for the flow-through financing caused by the increase in capital gains inclusion rate.

 

 

The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is arranging an information session on its TestLab initiatives, designed to support early-stage capital raising for Ontario businesses by providing prospectus exemption and other means of relief. The session will take place virtually on Tuesday, October 1st, from 10-11 am EDT.

PDAC is proud to offer the Indigenous Artisans initiative at our annual convention. Indigenous artisans and Indigenous-owned-and-operated artisanal businesses (considered those who produce handmade or specialty goods including but not limited to jewelry, artwork, clothing, and food) are encouraged to for a coveted spot on the show floor.

| HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

 

The PDAC is committed to supporting opportunities for students to experience different aspects of their studies in the geosciences. Applications for field trip funding from Canadian post-secondary institutions to support an academic field trip or support for field mapping schools will open on October 1. Visit our for the application form.

 

 

Applications are open for the third year of the Experience; an exciting opportunity that provides financial support for five students to attend the PDAC 2025 Convention! Covering all costs, the Experience offers networking and learning opportunities for students in a geoscience or mining related program who have never attended the Convention. We thank the Leishman family for their continued support of this initiative.

 

 

 

Applications are being accepted for the 2025 Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award. The $5,000 award support a graduate student in Canada whose thesis has a strong mapping component and embodies the concept of increasing our knowledge of the geological history of Canada through mapping. Applications close Dec 15.

 

| INDIGENOUS AFFAIRS

 

In the week leading up to September 30th, which is both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, we honour the resilience and strength of the survivors, families, and communities affected by the residential school system. Acceptances begin October 1st! Don’t miss out on PDAC’s inaugural Indigenous Youth and Early Career Ambassador Program. Successful Ambassadors will receive support to attend Convention 2025, and will gain access to unique education, mentorship, and networking opportunities to bolster their careers and gain critical knowledge to bring back to their peers and communities. Ambassadors can apply themselves or be nominated by their community or a PDAC Corporate Member.

 

| REGULATORY AFFAIRS

 

On September 13th, PDAC submitted our response to Environment and Climate Change Canada’s consultation on the emergency order to protect caribou habitat in Quebec, cautioning ECCC on the potential impacts of this emergency order on mineral exploration and development in some of Quebec’s most prolific mining regions.
