The Mineral Finance report covers key trends related to the activity of the mineral sector, including metal prices, financing and exploration expenditures. It illustrates the tensions between conflicting trends – a short term economic weakness that reduces the demand for raw materials, versus a long-term prospects due to the energy transition and related fiscal incentives.

 

 

The Mineral Exploration Tax Credit (METC) is set to expire in seven months, and we have serious concerns about its renewal. To support our extension request, we are building a case study to show the economic advantages of flow-through shares. If you are willing to share some data about your project (anonymously) to help us build this case, we’d like to hear from you!

Finance Canada recently introduced several legislative proposals pertaining to the mineral sector, including a reduction of the eligibility threshold for the Clean Technology Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit, as well as legislation aimed at offsetting the ramifications for the flow-through financing caused by the increase in capital gains inclusion rate. PDAC is working on a response letter to these two proposals. .

 

 

 

The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is arranging an information session on its TestLab initiatives, designed to support early-stage capital raising for Ontario businesses by providing prospectus exemption and other means of relief. The session will take place virtually on Tuesday, October 1st, from 10-11 am EDT.

The Mining Industry Human Resources Council’s (MiHR) Green Jobs program has several opportunities remaining for mining employers to apply for wage subsidies. Green Jobs helps youth gain relevant and meaningful mining work experience through job placements or training opportunities that focus on clean technology and innovation. The maximum wage subsidy ranges from $24,000 - $30,000.

MiHR has launched a new labour market information (LMI) data visualization tool that offers mining stakeholders a comprehensive look into select occupations. This dashboard helps identify where opportunities may lie and where there may be more difficulty in hiring. This helps mining companies be more resilient and adaptive to economic and industry shifts, develop a more diverse and inclusive workforce and tailor strategies to regional labour market conditions.

To help drive systemic change and innovation, MiHR produced a series of guides, tools and reports to help mining organizations develop and implement corporate equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) strategies.

 

Based on the Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) Equitable, Diverse, and Inclusive Workplaces Protocol, MiHR’s EDI Toolkit for Mining Companies is organized by TSM performance indicators to help mining organizations move from ideation to implementation, evaluation and reporting.

Successful Ambassadors will receive support to attend Convention 2025, and will gain access to unique education, mentorship, and networking opportunities to bolster their careers and gain critical knowledge to bring back to their peers and communities.
