| ADVOCACY

 

PDAC provided a second submission to the federal government as part of the public consultation in advance of Budget 2023. Our 5 recommendations focused on providing incentives to industry to bolster exploration and development in Canada, including extending the Mineral Exploration Tax Credit (METC) expanding the eligibility of Canadian Development Expenses (CDE). | HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

The Experience will continue Don's legacy of generosity and mentorship, and provide students in exploration and mining with an opportunity to attend the Convention, develop friendships, and advance their career. Congratulations to Darius Kamal of the University of British Columbia, this year’s recipient of the Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award. Darius’s PhD research aims to establish how rock deformation during crustal shortening events impacts the distribution, preservation, and grade of sediment-hosted massive sulfide (SHMS) Zn-Pb deposits. Congratulations to Adrien Dimech, Université du Québec en Abitibi Témiscamingue, the 2023 recipient of the Innovation in Environmental and/or Social Performance. The goal of Adrien’s thesis is to develop geophysical techniques for continuous, real-time and remote monitoring of mine tailings and waste rocks. The results of the geophysical monitoring are promising to extend conventional monitoring approaches and take into account material variability and heterogeneity on a larger scale. Read more.

Student posters will be on display in the exhibits and you can meet all the presenters at the SMC Awards Reception. 20 Minute Mentoring and Guided Tours of the Exhibits will help you build your network while at the event.

 

After a three-year hiatus, we are excited to return to Sudbury, ON, from May 3-17, for the 14th annual Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop! Meet the twenty-two geoscience students from universities across Canada that will be participating in S-IMEW this year. The workshop includes a four day field trip to Kirkland Lake and Rouyn-Noranda.

Industry experts will expose students to a wide range of topics such as geochemistry and geophysics, mineral economics, QA/QC and much more. Hands-on learning via mapping exercises, mine tours, field trips and more are all part of the experience. Read more.

| INDIGENOUS AFFAIRS

 

If you’re a small or medium sized business in the Red Seal trades, you could qualify for the National Apprenticeships Program through the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC). This initiative supports SMEs across Canada to hire Indigenous women and gender-diverse people as first-year Red Seal apprentices. Businesses can receive up to $20,000 in funding ($10,000 per apprentice, up to two apprentices) with access to NWAC’s exclusive job board. | PDAC CONVENTION

 

On February 7 PDAC hosted a reception for parliamentarians in Ottawa as an opportunity to showcase everything on offer at PDAC 2023. Representatives of all parties joined PDAC staff to converse around a collection of mineral samples generously provided by the Nature Museum of Ottawa. PDAC would like to thank all parliamentarians who were able to join us, and we look forward to welcoming them to PDAC 2023.
