| ADVOCACY

 

PDAC is encouraged to see its recommendations on behalf of Canada’s mineral exploration and development industry reflected in the Federal Government’s Critical Minerals Strategy. Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources also announced seven countries, including Canada, will form a Sustainable Critical Minerals Alliance. Learn more.

Exhibitors are encouraged to participate in guided tours of the exhibits, to sign up as a student-friendly company, and to participate as an industry partner at the student-industry mixer. These free events provide organizations the best opportunities to meet with upcoming talent and keen job seekers. Sign up to participate.

 

All students working on projects with a link to earth science and economic geology are encouraged to participate in the annual Student Minerals Colloquium. This event provides the broadest exposure for current research. A panel of academics and industry professionals judge posters, with cash prizes awarded at the Awards Ceremony & Reception on March 7. Submit your abstract by January 13.

 

We are excited to welcome new and returning sponsors for the return of S-IMEW 2023. This two-week expense paid workshop exposes upper-year geoscience students to all aspects of the mineral exploration industry. Networking events and industry presence are important components and PDAC relies on industry support to continue hosting this educational workshop into the future. Applications for 2024 are now open! This international competition gives teams of geoscience students an opportunity to interpret geoscience data and pitch mineralization targets to a panel of industry judges, all while competing for the grand prize of $5,000 and three prize categories of $3,000. Enter your team before October 31, 2023.

| INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

 

Together with the World Economic Forum and the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, PDAC hosted the latest IMMS during its PDAC 2022 Convention in Toronto. The Summit brought together 20 international ministers responsible for mining, as well as representatives from industry and civil society, to discuss Getting to Net Zero: The mining industry’s roles in reducing global emissions. A report summarizing the Summit is now available in English, French and Spanish.

Bill C-32 has received royal assent, which passes into law the CMETC. The Canada Revenue Agency has released the certification form for the CMETC, which you can find on the PDAC website, along with additional details.
