Geoscientists Canada launch new website

Geoscience in Canada is the premiere resource for seeking information about practicing geoscience in Canada. The website is available to all prospective professional geoscientist applicants, regardless of the jurisdiction they may eventually apply. And it‘s free.

Safe Day Everyday Gold Awards 2019

Major Drilling is the Safe Day Everyday Gold Award recipient for the third consecutive year—having the highest number of hours without a lost-time incident at 1,200,066 hours in 2018. Rio Tinto Exploration Canada Inc., also a recipient, had 206,411 hours without a reportable injury. Congratulations to both organizations for being health and safety leaders in Canada.

2020 Health & Safety Survey

AME and PDAC have collaborated with the Canadian Diamond Drilling Association (CDDA) to launch a new portal, which includes features such as live tracking for elements. We understand that it’s a challenging time for many in the industry right now. For those who are able, please complete this year’s survey by June 1. Contact [email protected] with questions.

HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

New report enhances labour market information

The Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR) and PDAC launched the 2020 Canadian Mineral Exploration HR Outlook at this year’s PDAC Convention. The report reveals several overarching themes that cut across exploration employers, contractors, workers, educators, students and affiliates.

Wage subsidy available

MiHR’s Gearing Up wage subsidy program remains available to mining and mineral exploration employers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Gearing Up provides a wage subsidy of up to $7,000 to employers who create new work-integrated learning opportunities for post-secondary students such as co-ops, internships and field placements. Remote work is eligible. Apply today!

S-IMEW cancelled in light of COVID-19

PDAC has made the difficult decision to cancel its Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop scheduled April 29 to May 14, 2020. While we are extremely disappointed that Canada’s top geoscience students will miss this exclusive learning opportunity, the health and safety of participants, staff and volunteers is our top priority. We look forward to S-IMEW returning next year.
