PDAC recommends measures to support Canadian mineral exploration in pre-budget submission
In the PDAC‘s pre-budget submission to the Government of Canada, we outline the association’s priorities for Federal Budget 2016 to support Canada’s mineral exploration and development sector. The PDAC urges that the Government take action to improve the flow of capital to the junior exploration sector, and address the infrastructure deficit in northern and remote Canada. Manitoba commits to GRRS
PDAC applauds Minister Dave Chomiak’s announcement that Manitoba is committing to share up to 25 per cent of mining taxes on new mines with Indigenous communities. PDAC has long encouraged Government Resource Revenue Sharing (GRRS) mechanisms. See our 2007 GRRS Position Statement and 2014 Report.
Recommendations on Northern Infrastructure and Aboriginal Economic Development

Mining & the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
A “Consultation Draft” of the Mapping Mining to the SDGs: A Preliminary Atlas prepared by the UN Development Programme, World Economic Forum, Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment, and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network was released early this year. The consultation draft has been released to accept input and comment from a wider range of mining stakeholders. The consultation period closes April 8. Learn more.

Register for the CSR Event Series
The CSR Event Series March 6-8 at the PDAC 2016 Convention provides stakeholders with a platform for dialogue and learning on issues related to social and environmental performance of exploration and mining. This year proudly marks the seventh consecutive year of the CSR Event Series. Some discussions this year include: “Preparing for the rebound: strategic stakeholder engagement, Mining, exploration and the carbon driven economy” and “Responsible outward investments of Chinese mining companies”. Canadian Mineral Exploration Health & Safety Annual Reports
PDAC and the Association for Mineral Exploration British Columbia (AME BC) are pleased to present their annual industry environment, health and safety survey report for 2014. The report represents a cross-section of the health and safety performance of government geological surveys and companies active in, and supporting, exploration for precious and base metals, uranium, diamonds, coal and potash. 2016 Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop
PDAC is excited to have selected 26 geoscience students from across Canada to participate in the 10th annual Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW) held in Sudbury, Ontario May 6-20. Industry experts will expose students to a wide range of topics such as geochemistry and geophysics, mineral economics, corporate and social responsibility, and aboriginal participation in mineral exploration. Winner of the 2016 Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award
Jordan McDivitt of Laurentian University is the winner of this year’s Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award. His M.Sc thesis focused on the structural and hydrothermal evolution of gold mineralization in the Missanabie-Renabie district in Ontario, Canada by integrating detailed field mapping with a number of geochemical techniques. The results contribute to furthering the understanding of gold metallogeny in the district in order to aid the mineral exploration industry. Learn more. |

Broader strategy to review environmental assessment process
On January 27, the Government of Canada announced five principles that will guide its decision-making on major natural resource projects while they undertake a review of Canada’s environmental assessment processes. This follows the Government’s Speech from the Throne commitment to introduce new environmental assessment processes as part of their efforts to restore public trust. PDAC will continue to monitor progress of this file. Learn more. |
