15th Risk Mitigation & CSR Seminar
The Canada-Southern Africa Chamber of Business hosted its 15th Risk Mitigation & CSR Seminar. The PDAC presented on the Challenges Facing Junior Companies Operating Outside of Canada.

Roundtable with the Office of the Extractive Sector Corporate Social Responsibility Counsellor
PDAC hosted a roundtable discussion with the Office of the Extractive Sector Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Counsellor, Jeffrey Davidson, and six junior exploration and mining companies on October 2.

Security & Human Rights in Complex Environments
The Devonshire Initiative and the PDCA co-organized a session on Security & Human Rights in Complex Environments on September 29 in Toronto. Representatives from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) met with mineral exploration companies to hear their stories of corporate-community relations as they relate to security governance and implementation of Voluntary Principles.

Present to Your Peers at PDAC 2016
Students, showcase your research! This is an excellent opportunity to present your findings and network with industry colleagues during the Exploration and Insights session. The selection committee is particularly interested in academic, technical and policy abstracts. See the Call for Abstracts. Applications close November 13.

Call for Nominations: Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop
Applications are being accepted for the annual Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW) in May 2016. This two-week expense paid workshop in Sudbury exposes upper-year geoscience students to all aspects of the mineral exploration industry Each school can nominate up to two students. Call for Applications: Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award
Graduate geology students who are enrolled in Canadian universities are eligible to apply for the 2015 Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award. The award encourages and supports a graduate student whose thesis embodies the concept of increasing our knowledge of the geological history of Canada through mapping. Visit the website to apply.

Field Trip Funding
The PDAC is committed to supporting opportunities for students to experience different aspects of their geoscience studies. Applications for field trip funding from Canadian post-secondary institutions to support an academic field trip are now being accepted. Visit the website for more information.

New Electronic Membership Renewal Invoices
Three things to know about your 2016 membership renewal:

1. On October 22, 2015 you will receive an email with a link to the Online Membership Form along with your personalized username and password.
2. Once you submit your 2016 membership application, you will be issued a confirmation email that your application has been received. An e-receipt will follow when the online application is approved.
3. Your membership expires December 31 – reminder emails will be sent to those who have not yet renewed their membership for 2016.

Call for Nominations
Nominations to join the PDAC Board of Directors are open. The Board is responsible for the overall governance and stewardship of the association and represents the full spectrum of professions making up the mineral industry. The deadline is November 15. Learn more.

Events at a glance

Executive Director Andrew Cheatle will attend the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development, October 25-30.
President Rod Thomas will speak at the 10th Fennoscandian Exploration and Mining on November 3.
Andrew will speak at the Newfoundland and Labrador’s Mineral Resources Review 2015 on November 6.
Rod will participate in the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) in Melbourne, Australia from November 9-13. PDAC members can receive a 10% discount using VIP code: MA970PDAC10.
