Levelling the Playing Field – A study of exploration costs in Canada’s North
The cost to explore and build new mines can be as much as 2.5 times higher in Canada’s North than in other regions of the country, according to a new study entitled Levelling the Playing Field. The findings suggest the increase cost of exploring the North is due to a lack of critical infrastructure, which creates major obstacles to explore and operate in Canada’s remote and northern regions. The study was produced by the the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), Mining Association of Canada (MAC), the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies - Canada, the NWT & Nunavut Chamber of Mines, and the Yukon Chamber of Mines.
