PDAC welcomes Federal Budget 2019
Building on the Fall Economic Statement which announced the five-year renewal of the Mineral Exploration Tax Credit (METC), PDAC is encouraged by the Federal Government’s 2019 Budget. It contains provisions that align with our budget recommendations, including investments in Canada’s Arctic and northern regions, skills development, training and apprenticeships, and for Indigenous Peoples to advance reconciliation.

 

CAPITAL MARKETS
New online community for venture-listed companies
TMX Matrix is a new online platform to discover emerging growth companies. It features customizable company pages that go beyond traditional financial metrics with real-time quotes, financing activity, analytics, news, and custom content like videos and presentations.
 
Capital Markets Program (CMP) at PDAC 2019
The expanded program attracted higher attendance than previous years, providing commentary on various topics related to finance in the minerals industry. PDAC thanks the session chairs, panelists and attendees for making this year’s CMP a success. Watch the EV and battery metals session online.
FINANCE & TAXATION
Mineral exploration and mining sector at a crossroads
A new report by PDAC and Oreninc shows exploration spending jumped more than 30% in Canada and almost 20% globally in 2018. State of Mineral Finance 2019: At the Crossroads also shows that financing had weakened overall, stalling the investment rebound that had previously emerged.
 
Canadian exploration expenditures projected to drop
New estimates provided by NRCan indicate that 2019 exploration expenditures are projected to decline by roughly 7% across Canada, versus a year prior. Most alarming in NRCan’s estimates is the significant +30% decline in the Northwest Territories and Yukon.
HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
Contribute to Canadian Mineral HR Outlook Report
Take part in PDAC and the Mining Industry Human Resources Council‘s (MiHR) 2019 Mineral Exploration HR Survey. Information provided will help determine the strategic priorities for human resource development in the Canadian mineral exploration industry. 

PDAC 2019 Student & Early Career Program highlights
Two new events were launched at PDAC 2019. Flash Mentoring facilitated conversations between students and industry volunteers across exploration and mining. In addition, Deal or no deal: the art and science of project strategy introduced participants to the strategic decision making required to maximize the value of an exploration project. This was a strategic exercise, the first of its kind that attracted 160 participants.

PDAC welcomes new President
Felix Lee is the 37th President of PDAC. Felix is currently Director and Principal Consultant with CSA Global Canada, and is the previous owner and President of A.C.A. Howe International Limited. Felix has served on PDAC's Executive, Governance & Nominating, HRD, and Membership committees.
Board election results
Eight members were elected to the PDAC Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting on March 3 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The Board is comprised of industry professionals who support and guide the work of the association on behalf of its members.

PDAC 2019 CONVENTION
 
Attendance exceeds 25,000
Thank you for making PDAC 2019 the world’s premier mineral exploration and mining convention! We hosted 25,843 attendees from more than 130 countries, as well as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who spoke with PDAC Past President Glenn Mullan. Watch video (start at 35:00).

SECURITIES
PDAC responds to OSC Staff Notice 11-784
In response to OSC’s initiative to reduce regulatory burdens, PDAC submitted a letter outlining industry concerns. An initial roundtable will be held on March 27 to chart next steps. PDAC applauds OSC for this initiative which has positive potential for Canadian jurisdictions.
