Celebrating Government's five-year METC renewal |
Canada’s Minister of Finance, the Honourable Bill Morneau, announced in the 2018 Fall Economic Statement that the government will renew the Mineral Exploration Tax Credit (METC) for five years. This is the first multi-year renewal of the METC since its inception in 2000—something PDAC has long championed and advocated for. We applaud the Government of Canada for taking steps to enhance the competitiveness of Canada’s mineral sector, and thank our members and stakeholders for helping us achieve this victory. Applications are being accepted for the 13th annual Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW), in Sudbury in May 2019. The two-week, expense-paid workshop exposes upper-year geoscience students to all aspects of the mineral exploration industry. The nomination deadline is December 7. Call for abstracts: PDAC-SEG Student Minerals Colloquium |
|
All students (BSc, MSc, PhD) working on projects with a link to mineral deposits (e.g. mapping, mineralogy, geochemistry, geophysics, environmental, hydrogeology, etc.) are encouraged to submit a poster to the 10th annual PDAC-SEG Student Minerals Colloquium at the PDAC 219 Convention on March 5. Shape the next generation of Canada’s mining workforce |
|
Hiring post-secondary students or recent graduates? You could receive a subsidy up to $12,000 thanks to the Mining Industry Human Resource Council’s (MiHR) wage subsidy programs, Gearing Up and Green Jobs. Gearing Up provides funding to employers who create new work-integrated learning opportunities for students, such as co-ops, internships and applied projects. Green Jobs placements for recent graduates must be between six to 12 months in duration, related to STEM, and have a focus on clean technology and innovation. |

New way for immigrants to connect with Ontario's mining industry |
MiHR, in collaboration with the Toronto Regional Immigrant Employment Council and Professions North/Nord, has launched the Mining Professional Immigrant Network (M-PIN), an online and in-person networking group that adapts, tests, and evaluates innovative engagement methods to better integrate immigrant talent into Ontario’s mining industry. Supreme Court opens door to cooperative securities regulator |
|
In an appeal by the Quebec Government regarding the Capital Markets Regulatory Authority (CMRA), the Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution allows federal, provincial and territorial governments to work together to regulate securities trading under a single, unified system. The ruling cleared a major setback for the establishment of the CMRA, which PDAC has supported from its original conception, as a way to improve capital market efficiencies across Canada. Learn more
