Developing a Canadian Minerals and Metals Plan |
Government officials are looking for input into the development of a Canadian Minerals and Metals Plan (CMMP). The CMMP, called for by federal, provincial and territorial Ministers responsible for mining, aims to enhance Canada’s position as a global mining leader and to lay the foundation for long-term success of the sector. A Discussion Paper was developed by government to elicit feedback on potential elements of the Plan. View the Discussion Paper and share your views.

Update on Consultation Paper 51-404 |
Last year the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) published Consultation Paper 51-404, Considerations for Reducing Regulatory Burden for Non-Investment Fund Reporting Issuer. This paper sought feedback on securities legislation applicable to non-investment fund reporting issuers. PDAC made a submission on behalf of its members, and on March 27 the CSA provided an update in response to the feedback received from stakeholders. Learn more |

PDAC engages on Bill C-69 |
PDAC has made a submission regarding Bill C-69, An Act to enact the Impact Assessment Act. PDAC has requested two amendments to the legislation and provided commentary on some key provisions within the Act.
PDAC also appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development (ENVI) on March 28 to discuss the Impact Assessment Act and potential implications for the mineral sector. View the Committee hearing.

Greenhouse gas reporting opens |
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC)’s Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP) is now accepting greenhouse gas (GHG) reports for the 2017 calendar year. Facilities that emitted 10 kilotonnes or more of GHGs in 2017, or were involved in carbon capture, transport or storage activities from 2014 to 2017, must report by June 1. Reporting is mandatory. Employers can receive up to $7,000 to fund a new co-op, internship, or field placement for students, as part of the Government of Canada's $7.8 million in funding to the Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR)'s Gearing Up: Developing Mining Talent Through Work-Integrated Learning project. Glenn Nolan to open S-IMEW 2018 |
The 12th annual Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW) returns to Sudbury May 3-17, where 25 top upper-year Canadian post-secondary geoscience students will learn about career opportunities in the mineral exploration industry and the adventures of being a geoscientist. Glenn Nolan, VP Government Affairs at Noront Resources, will deliver the keynote address at the Welcome Reception on May 4 at Dynamic Earth.
