I travelled to Ottawa on March 22 to read the budget under embargo prior to its public release. PDAC had made four recommendations to the Federal Government for the 2017 budget and we were eager to see if we were heard … after all, we are the voice of Canada’s mineral exploration and mining industry.

It gives me great pleasure to promote Canada as the global leader in mineral exploration, mining and sustainable development practices, and I get to do this often.

Since the Liberal Party came to power in October 2015, PDAC has been building strong relationships with new (and old) Members of Parliament who play a role in the well-being of Canada’s mineral exploration and development industry.

It’s hard to believe that the PDAC 2016 Convention is already two months behind us. This was my second year attending the convention in my role as the association’s Executive Director and I’m so proud to lead an association that is not only the voice for Canada’s mineral industry, but also the world’s.

The PDAC 2016 Convention is right around the corner. With just a few weeks to go, there is much happening behind the scenes to make sure it’s another memorable event.

As we enter a new year and set fresh goals and resolutions, as well as work off the holiday calories, we should take a moment to reflect on the Canadian mineral exploration and development sector in 2015.

It has been an exciting couple of months for PDAC and Canada alike. A change of government brings many new opportunities, along with fresh challenges.

If you’re involved in mineral exploration and development, then you frequently hear the words “it’s a tough time for the industry right now.”

Exploration is essential to the mining industry. It’s considered the first stage of the mining cycle and vital to the discovery and development of new mines.
