Student Activities At PDAC Convention 2015

The world renowned PDAC Convention offers students a unique opportunity to network with industry professionals from all over the world. Last year the Convention attracted over 1,600 students from across Canada, the USA and internationally. Registration opens in December.

Student Membership

For $19.05/year (plus tax) you can join the PDAC as a student member. This allows you to enjoy all member benefits, cheaper convention registration and the opportunity to qualify for tuition top-up awards at the Convention. To sign up for membership click here.

Volunteer Opportunities

PDAC offers students a unique opportunity to volunteer their time in exchange for a complimentary Student All Access Pass AND a ticket to either the Mineral Outlook Luncheon or the Panel Luncheon.

Make an impression, build on your knowledge and develop your network with a series of events designed especially for students.  The world renowned PDAC convention offers students a unique opportunity to meet professionals in the industry.

As a volunteer, you will be assigned 2 four and half hour shifts Sunday, March 1 through Tuesday, March 3 OR 1 six and a half hour shift on Wednesday, March 4 during PDAC 2015. Volunteer apparel, a food voucher, a gift card, a volunteer certificate and an attendee bag and materials will be provided to each volunteer in addition to the complimentary Student All Access Pass. To participate, you must be available to attend a 90-minute orientation session on Saturday, February 28 at 12 noon or 3 pm, or Sunday, March 1 at 10 am or 1 pm at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Convention Travel Funding

The PDAC has set up a Convention Travel Fund to help student groups cover the costs of getting to Toronto. Download 2015 PDAC Convention Travel Fund Application Form
February 6, 2015 is the deadline for applications; funds will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Student Booth

The Student Booth will be located on Level 800 near the concession stands. Sign-up for the tours of the trade show and investors exchange and get more information about student opportunities at the Convention.  

PDAC-CIM Toronto Branch Guided Tours

These 90 minute tours are a great way to become acquainted with the 1000+ companies that exhibit in the Trade Show and Investors Exchange. The focus is on companies that have identified themselves as ‘student friendly’.  Each tour stop will last approximately 7 minutes and will focus on the exploration and/or production aspects of the company’s projects and career opportunities.

PDAC Survival Skills

This event will help you maximise your Convention experience, whether it’s your first time at the PDAC or your fifth.  Discover the many opportunities available for you at the Convention and learn how to market yourself to potential employers to make the right impression. Afterwards, head over to the Welcome Reception at the Trade Show North, to put those networking skills to good use.

PDAC-NSERC-CMIC Footprints Network-SEG Canada Student Minerals Colloquium     

PDAC is pleased to partner with the NSERC-CMIC Footprints Network and the Society of Economic Geologists Canada Foundation in sponsoring the Annual Student Minerals Colloquium. This event is hosted by the SEG Student Chapters at Laurentian University and the Ottawa-Carleton Geoscience Centre and will feature 100 poster presentations highlighting current research on mineral deposits and related studies by students and post-doctoral fellows from across North America.

Student-Industry Networking Luncheon              

The flagship event of the student program; this reception-style buffet luncheon gives you the opportunity to make valuable connections with industry professionals and peers. The winner of the Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award will be announced as well as the selected 2015 Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW) students. Don’t miss this opportunity to put your networking skills to good use. There will be a draw for five $300 tuition top-up awards – proof of student membership is required to obtain the award.
