Mining Amendment Act 

On April 30, 2009 the Ontario Government announced its proposed changes to the Ontario Mining Act. These changes are contained in Bill 173, Mining Amendment Act.

Bill 173 received Royal Assent on October 29, 2009.

Background: 

On July 14, 2008, the Ontario government announced its intention to modernize the province’s mining act, protect the northern boreal region and implement resource benefits sharing click here. On August 5, the government announced that it will be holding a series of public and stakeholder meetings on this topic. PDAC members operating in Ontario will be affected by these consultations and resulting legislation. [note deletion] The PDAC is acting on behalf of its members and working in support of the Ontario Prospectors Association and the Ontario Mining Association.
