CRA guidelines on tax treatment of various costs
Last year Canada Revenue Agency released guidelines that it will use to
determine the tax treatment of the costs of community consultation,
environmental studies, and feasibility studies. The guidelines are
posted on the PDAC’s website and are available
here.

Sequel to Free Gold to be on sale at PDAC Convention 2008
In 1946 mining engineer Arnold Hoffman published a highly popular book
called Free Gold – The Story of Canadian Mining. The work covered the
successes of the mineral industry to the end of World War II. A sequel
has been published this month. More than Free Gold, written by Michael
Barnes, continues the story of Canadian mineral exploration over the six
decades since 1946. The new book will be on sale at PDAC Convention
2008. Copies will be available at the Mining Matters booth on level 800
at the foot of the main escalators in the south building of the Metro
Toronto Convention Centre. The author will be on hand to sign copies of
the book during the convention. Publishing of the new book, which costs
$24.95 a copy, is a non-profit venture, undertaken under the auspices of
the PDAC. Proceeds from sales will go to PDAC Mining Matters, the
educational arm of the association. For more details, contact
Saley
Lawton.

Presentation rooms at PDAC Convention 2008
We would like to remind those of our members attending next month’s
convention that the presentation rooms on level 700 are well worth a
visit. These are rooms rented by organizations or governments for a half
or full day to enable them to make presentations, launch a product, or
to provide targeted networking opportunities. The line-up on Sunday
afternoon includes a Nigerian reception and a series of papers on
geothermal power. Monday sees the launch of PITRAM 3, a mine production
control system; exploration investment opportunities in Brazil;
exploration and mining in China; and Highland Gold’s activities and
plans in Russia and Central Asia. On Tuesday, the presentation rooms
continue with a focus on opportunities around the world, specifically in
Colombia; Chile; India; and Indonesia and the Philippines. Zinifex, the
Australian zinc and lead producer, also has a full-day presentation room
to discuss its exploration and development projects. Further details
about the presentation rooms are
here.
