CSR
roundtables – Toronto, Calgary, and Montreal
Thanks to all of you who responded to our urgent appeal for industry
participation at the upcoming roundtable on corporate social
responsibility in Toronto on September 12 and 13. As a result, there
will be more of a balance between exploration and mining representatives
and civil society, which is what we were hoping for. There are still
spaces for presentations on the evening of September 12. To make a
presentation [maximum 7 minutes], you must register online. Registration
for the Toronto event closes at noon on Friday, September 1. Full
details on how to register are
here and a
background summary of the roundtables is
here. By the
way, you should still register if you want to attend as an observer.
Similar roundtables are scheduled for Calgary in mid-October and for
Montreal during November. We shall send you more details as soon as we
have them.

Deadline for responses to membership survey is September 5
We very much appreciate the survey responses that we have received from
our members. Just a note to those members who haven’t responded yet. If
you would like your name to be put into the draw for the gold wafer,
then we need your completed survey by the end of the business day,
Tuesday, September 5. The survey, which takes about ten minutes to
complete, is online
here or you can fax in the hard copy which was mailed to all
members. Please call Kim MacDonald at 416 362 1969, ext. 247, if you
would like a copy faxed to you.

PDAC represents exploration industry at Mines Ministers’ Conference
Canada’s mines ministers met earlier this week in Whitehorse, Yukon.
During her presentation of the PDAC’s brief, President Patricia Dillon
called for the implementation of a long-term strategy to assure high and
sustained levels of mineral exploration in this country. “Canada’s
ability to meet the global demand for mineral commodities and for
Canadians to benefit from this demand,” she said, “are contingent on the
ability of our mineral industry to discover new mineral deposits.” Click
here for an English version of the brief and
here for a French version.

Mining
Aboriginal Information Kit now available
President Patricia Dillon took part in the launch of the Mining
Information Kit for Aboriginal Communities during this week’s conference
of Canada’s mines ministers in Whitehorse, Yukon. The kit is designed to
inform aboriginal communities about the stages of the mining cycle, from
early exploration to mine closure, and to identify the many
opportunities that exploration and mining can bring to communities. The
kit is a product of a partnership between the Government of Canada
(Natural Resources Canada and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada), the
PDAC, the Mining Association of Canada, and the Canadian Aboriginal
Minerals Association. Copies of the kit are available in
English and
French online. If you would like a hard copy, please email
Kim MacDonald.

Call for papers
for PDAC Convention 2007
We are inviting policy and technical papers for presentation during
the open session at next year’s convention [Sunday, March 4-Wednesday,
March 7, 2007] in Toronto. Full details on how to submit a paper and
deadlines are
here.
