PDAC mounts campaign for reform of Canada’s securities regulatory system
A campaign has been launched by the PDAC to work towards the improvement of Canada’s securities regulatory system. Key to the campaign is support from members of the mineral exploration sector and by those associations representing the sector at the local or regional level across Canada. The PDAC’s position paper on how the system should be reformed is set out here. Please take a look at it and let us have your comments (positive or negative). Even if you have no comments, let us know that you support our position. The association sees reform of the current system as key to the junior exploration sector and to the many people whose livelihoods depend on it. Canada is the only G7 country without a national securities regulator and is in danger of falling behind in the global economy. We must act now and take advantage of the groundswell of opinion that is recognizing that the system needs to be fixed. Send your comments or notes of support to Dave Comba.

New material enhances the quality and depth of E3
Barry Simmons, project manager of E3, reports that much work has gone into developing new material and sections for E3 Environmental Excellence in Exploration since the site was launched in 2003. The new material includes revised content within existing sections, completely new sections and several hundreds of new photo images illustrating some of the best practices described. The new sections include advice on operating in areas of archaeological and cultural significance, check lists that can be readily printed for use in the field, case histories submitted by corporate users and information on best practices to be used in special terrains such as the Arctic or alpine areas. Researcher on industry’s relationships with aboriginal communities visits PDAC
Thanks to those PDAC members who came to share their experiences of working with aboriginal communities with James Suzman on August 10. Dr. Suzman is a Smuts Fellow at the Centre for Africa Studies at Cambridge University. The intent of his visit to Canada, which was hosted by De Beers Canada, was to investigate relationships between aboriginal communities and resource developers and to determine strategies for improving those relationships. For more information, contact Philip Bousquet.

Looking for a speaker for your event?
If you’re looking for a speaker for your event, please consider the following. Dave Comba, who is a CIM Distinguished Lecturer this year, can speak with authority on the role of ‘super’ flow-through shares in revamping domestic exploration spending. The data he has collected provide compelling evidence that this temporary program, the envy of the world, should become permanent in Canada. PDAC president Peter Dimmell can speak on a range of topics. On Tuesday, November 9, he will be in Fredericton to talk on prospecting in the Atlantic provinces at Exploration and Mining New Brunswick 2004. We would also be happy to make presentations on improving this country’s securities regulatory system, E3 Environmental Excellence in Exploration, access to land and integrated landscape management, and acquiring mineral rights in Canada. For more information, contact Saley Lawton.
