Association
requests flow-through share extension in brief to Canada's mines
ministers
In its brief on behalf of the exploration and development sector to
this year's Mines Ministers' Conference, the PDAC requests a
three-year extension to the "super" flow-through share program. An
appendix to the submission contains a list of flow-share financed
discoveries by jurisdiction made since the program was introduced in
October 2000. The association also seeks ministerial support for a
number of other items, including securities regulatory reform; tax
treatment of community consultation expenditures; and portability of
professional status across Canada.

brief.

Securities
regulatory reform
The debate continues about how best to improve this country's
securities regulation system. Over the past few months the PDAC
securities committee has made submissions to: a) the British
Columbia Securities Commission on its proposed new substantive
securities legislation; b) the Steering Committee of the Provincial
Finance Ministers on its attempt to devise a securities regulatory
framework proposed to support the proposed uniform securities
legislation; and c) the Wise Persons' Committee on its deliberations
on the appropriate regulatory framework and form of securities
legislation all of which relate to the current debate within Canada
about how to streamline and make more cost effective securities
regulation across the country. Click here

Speak to Teresa
about membership
Teresa Barrett is the person to speak to if you have questions
about your membership. In her new position as membership
coordinator, Teresa will be responsible for receiving membership
applications, keeping membership records accurate and all other
functions relating to membership. One of her first major tasks is to
send out membership renewals, scheduled for mid-October. These will
include our first renewals for Core membership. May we remind all
Core members that you must renew your membership by the end of the
year to maintain your Core membership. If you are a regular member,
we would like to encourage you to join the Core. There are definite
advantages, including an immediate saving of $65.

What do you think
about the PDAC's communications?
The communications committee is seeking members' opinions about how
the association currently communicates with its membership. If
results warrant it, the committee will take steps to improve the
association's communication vehicles. A survey will be sent out to
you soon. Would you please take a few minutes to complete it and
send us your views.
