News ReleaseProspectors and Developers Association of Canada announces appointment of new Executive DirectorTORONTO (July 4, 2011) - The Board of Directors is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Ross Gallinger as Executive Director of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) effective August 15, 2011. Mr. Gallinger will replace Tony Andrews, who steps down after 25 years in the position. Under Mr. Andrews’ guidance, the PDAC has grown into a globally influential organization whose annual convention now draws close to 30,000 delegates from 120 countries. “Tony Andrews has taken the PDAC from a regional organization to one that provides vital leadership nationally and internationally in advocacy, leading practice, knowledge, and networking,” said Dr. Scott Jobin-Bevans, President of the PDAC. “Tony leaves some big shoes to fill but with Ross Gallinger’s wealth of experience and outstanding record of achievement, I am confident he will lead our organization to new heights.” Mr. Gallinger is a graduate of the University of British Columbia and brings more than 25 years of industry experience to his new role. Having held positions in environment, health, safety and community relations with Placer Dome Canada, BHP Billiton, Rio Algom, Noranda and Westmin, Mr. Gallinger has been intrinsically involved with environmental impact assessment, social impact assessment, community development, and closure planning and implementation in Canada, South America and Africa. Most recently, Mr. Gallinger was Senior Vice President of Health, Safety & Sustainability for IAMGOLD where he was focused on improving the company’s performance in engagement, social stewardship, environmental stewardship, and safety. While at IAMGOLD, Mr. Gallinger developed and introduced the Zero Harm Policy, which led to dramatic gains in that company’s health and safety record and Corporate Social Responsibility Awards from Algonquin College, the PDAC and the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM). IAMGOLD was also ranked third for Corporate Social Responsibility by the Globe and Mail for TSX60 companies. Mr. Gallinger is a founding member and served as co-chair of the Devonshire Initiative, a group of leading Canadian development NGOs and extractive companies working together to improve development outcomes. As well, he served as Chair of the Operating Committee of the International Network for Acid Prevention and is on the PDAC’s Corporate Social Responsibility Committee. “I am very happy that Ross Gallinger was selected to be my successor,” said Tony Andrews, the PDAC’s outgoing Executive Director. “His CSR accomplishments, experience with juniors, mid-tiers and majors – along with his successful record of partnering with NGOs – make Ross exceptionally qualified to lead the PDAC into the future.” About the PDAC The PDAC is a national organization that represents the interests of the Canadian mineral exploration and encourages the highest standards of technical, environmental, safety and social practices in Canada and internationally. It has 7,684 individual members (including prospectors, developers, geoscientists, consultants, mining executives, students, and those involved in the drilling, financial, investment, legal and other support fields) and 1081 corporate members (including senior, mid-size and junior mining companies).
