The 2007 PDAC International Convention, Trade Show and Investors
Exchange broke yet another record with 17,600 people attending this 75th
gathering at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in March. More than
500
students registered as delegates. Attendees came from an estimated 100
countries, of which 40 sent official delegations headed by a senior
government representative.
There were 757 exhibiting companies at the
convention: 429 in the Investors Exchange,
282 in the Trade Show and 46
in the Core Shack. There were 200 speakers in the technical program,
exchange forum and PDAC/CAMESE (Canadian Association of Mining Equipment
and Services for Export) Exhibitors Innovation Forum.
Convention highlights included:

a full session on aboriginal participation in
the industry with Canadian, American and Australian
presenters;

a two-day short course on circumpolar deposits
north of the Arctic Circle in recognition of the Fourth
International Polar Year;

a luncheon for members who were over 65 years
old and had been PDAC members for more than 25 years;

luncheon speakers Keith Suter, a social
commentator and member of the Club of Rome, and environmentalist
Patrick Moore, a founding member and former president of Greenpeace;

a federal government announcement of a $2.5
million grant toward a program to attract young people and
under-represented groups into the industry;

guests attending the
75th awards evening
received a sterling silver commemorative pin, fashioned in the shape
of a rock hammer and bearing a 0.04 carat diamond.
