Flow-through shares
Canada’s Federal Government is currently reviewing the flow-through share system and Mineral Exploration Tax Credit (METC). Both financing tools are the life-blood of grassroots exploration and a major reason why Canada is a global leader in mineral exploration and mining. PDAC is advocating for the METC to be renewed and for flow-through shares to be kept alive. We created a flow-through share section on our website that includes:
  • Questionnaire results completed by 54 industry representatives showing how they used flow-through shares.
  • Case studies showing how seed money for exploration activity and the discovery of a mineral resource can eventually lead to the development of a mine.
  • Interviews with executives of Canadian mining companies about flow-through shares.

Mentor Program
Applications for mentors to participate in an exciting new initiative are being accepted. The aim is to connect student members with experienced geoscientists to help strengthen our professional community. PDAC is searching for mentors in all areas of geoscience. To participate, email Marc Gasparotto, Student Program Coordinator at [email protected] or visit our website for more information.

PDAC is accepting applications for the annual Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW) that takes place in Sudbury each May. This two-week, expense paid workshop exposes upper-year geoscience students to all aspects of the mineral exploration industry. Schools can nominate up to two students before the December 9 deadline. Call for applications: Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award
Applications are being accepted for the 2017 Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award. Graduate geology students enrolled in Canadian universities are eligible to apply. The award is intended to encourage and support a graduate student in Canada whose thesis embodies the concept of increasing our knowledge of the geological history of Canada through mapping. The deadline to apply is December 12. Learn more

Field trip funding
PDAC is committed to supporting opportunities for students to experience different aspects of their geoscience programs. Applications for funding from Canadian post-secondary institutions to support an academic field trip are now being accepted. Learn more.

Proposed update to U.S. mining disclosure rules
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed revisions to modernize U.S. property disclosure requirements that are intended to align the U.S. with global industry standards such as NI 43-101. Many commentators have noted that the proposed changes deviate from existing disclosure standards (such as NI 43-101), and if adopted in the form originally proposed, may create more problems than they solve. PDAC has made a submission to SEC on the proposed amendments.Learn more

Aboriginal Affairs

Promoting leading community engagement practices
The PDAC Aboriginal Affairs Program is collecting information from companies about activities they have undertaken, or are undertaking, to build positive relationships with Aboriginal communities and to enhance Aboriginal community participation in the minerals industry. The data that is collected will help PDAC tell the important stories of our members by:

  • Sharing stories through communication outlets (e.g. website, quarterly newsletter Core).
  • Using information when meeting government officials across Canada.
Please help us promote your stories by filling out the online questionnaire. If you have any questions, please contact Lesley Williams, Senior Manager, Aboriginal & Regulatory Affairs, at [email protected].
