The 2014 PDAC Board Election results were announced March 2, 2014 at the PDAC’s Annual General Meeting.  The following candidates have been elected by the membership to fill the 19 available positions on the Board of Directors for the 2014-2017 term.

PDAC 2014 Convention

Prime Minister Stephen Harper attends PDAC 2014

Prime Minister Stephen Harper becomes the first sitting Prime Minister to attend a PDAC Convention in its 82-year history. Addressing a crowd of more than 600 delegates in a special presentation on the Government’s support for the mineral industry, the Prime Minister and incoming PDAC President Rod Thomas discussed a variety of issues that demonstrated the significance and value of the mineral industry to Canada and Canadians.

PDAC also welcomed a record number of elected officials this year from across the country, including more than 50 Members of Parliament.

PDAC 2014 Convention attracts over 25,000 attendees

For the fourth consecutive year, the PDAC’s annual convention surpassed 25, 000 attendees. An enthusiastic crowd of 25,122 investors, analysts, mining executives, geologists, government officials, students and international delegations attended the world’s premier event for the mineral industry. Over 800 delegates attend CSR Event Series at PDAC 2014

The fifth year of the CSR Event Series at the PDAC Convention attracted a record number of attendees from industry, government, academia and civil society. The series held eight sessions open to all convention delegates, and facilitated multi-stakeholder dialogue on key issues related to CSR in the mineral industry, such as local procurement, community engagement and resource nationalism. Access speaker presentations from PDAC 2014

All Access Pass holders will receive email instructions in the coming weeks on how to access Technical Program and Open Session videos, as released by the presenters for inclusion. Mineral Exploration Industry Workshop on Geoscience (Vancouver)

The Geological Survey of Canada (GSC), in conjunction with Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), will be holding an exploration industry workshop on the identification of key geoscience knowledge gaps that act as barriers to successful mineral exploration.
 
Location: Tuesday, April 15, 2014, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, GSC Boardroom, 15th floor, 605 Robson St., Vancouver.  Space is limited to 30 participants. If interested in attending, please email: [email protected].

Canadian Federation of Earth Sciences undergoes renewal process

Bill C-15: The NWT Devolution Act

On February 11, 2014 the PDAC and the NWT & Nunavut Chamber of Mines testified before the Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural on Bill C-15, The NWT Devolution Act.  The mineral industry strongly supports devolution in the Northwest Territories but is concerned with a number of proposed amendments to the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act, which were included in the Bill.  The joint presentation to the Senate Committee can be viewed here and updates on the progress on the Bill can be obtained here.
 

PDAC Participates on “Managing Growth in Northern Ontario” panel at the 2014 OGRA/ROMA Conference

The PDAC represented the mineral industry on Managing Growth in Northern Ontario the panel, which took place on February 25.  Providing an overview of the state of the mineral industry in Northern Ontario, the PDAC used the Ring of Fire as a case study to discuss opportunities/challenges in the region, as well as to highlight tools available to ensure that mineral exploration and development occurs in an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible manner.  The panel also included Faisal Moola from the David Suzuki Foundation and David Canfield, Mayor of Kenora.

Maureen Jensen, 2014 WIM Canada Trailblazer, keynote at S-IMEW

The closing keynote speaker for the PDAC’s Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW) will be Maureen Jensen, Executive Director and CAO of the Ontario Securities Commission and recipient of the 2014 WIM Canada Trailblazer Award. Maureen’s talk and the Closing Dinner will take place on May 15, at Science North in Sudbury.
