Lesson Plan: Aggregate Resources
The Greater Toronto Area has some of the richest
aggregate deposits on the continent. This lesson
plan introduces Grades 7 and 9 students to the
importance of aggregates. The activities were
developed by teachers and peer-reviewed by
industry professionals to meet Ontario school
curriculum expectations.

Lesson Plan: Gold Digger’s Day
This mini-unit integrates science, mathematics,
language, drama, history, and geography.
Students learn about gold by participating in a
game show. Through a drama presentation, they
learn about historical figures involved in the
1890’s gold rush. The unit is enhanced by data
management-type problems, mapping activities,
and the reading and dramatization of Robert
Service poems. The mini-unit includes five
activity descriptions, an informative poster, a
fact sheet on gold, and “sparkly bits” for
gold-panning activities.

Lesson Plan: Mineral Crystal Clusters
This integrated activity combines mathematics,
science, and visual art and can be completed in
two visual art periods. Students create
three-dimensional crystal clusters from
geometric nets, and learn the names of the forms
and the minerals that occur in those crystal
shapes. This kit includes the activity
description, master copies of geometric nets, a
class copy of geometric nets, and sheets of
coloured tissue paper.
