Sustainable mining: is it good business?

What was seen as leading practice in sustainability five years ago is now considered the minimum standard of corporate responsibility in the mining sector. Stakeholder and shareholder expectations are rapidly increasing as a result of global economic, social and political trends.

Leading companies strive to anticipate and address these changes in order to remain at the forefront of the sustainable mining movement. But for companies to significantly invest in sustainability policy, and ensure that a commitment to sustainability practice is made from site to corporate, a question must be asked and answered: is sustainable mining good business?

We will discuss what this looks like at key stages in the mining cycle, how it may evolve, and understand what sustainable mining means to a company's bottom line. Our session will be facilitated by Louise Pearce, Global Mining Lead for ERM. Our panel includes the following speakers:

• Tom Albanese, Former CEO of Rio Tinto and Vedanta
• Elaine Dorward-King, Executive Vice President of Sustainability & External Relations, Newmont
• Jeff Hanman, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Teck
• Scott Yarrow, Vice President, Sustainability, Glencore

Attendees will be invited to join ERM and the panelists for a short cocktail reception following the discussion.

Registration is preferred, but not required. For more information and to register, contact Navita Khokha at [email protected]
