Sustainable mining: is it good business?

What was seen as leading practice in sustainability five years ago is now considered the minimum standard of corporate responsibility in the mining sector. Stakeholder and shareholder expectations are rapidly increasing as a result of global economic, social and political trends. Leading companies strive to anticipate and address these changes in order to remain at the forefront of the sustainable mining movement. But for companies to significantly invest in sustainability policy, and ensure that a commitment to sustainability practice is made from site to corporate, a question must be asked and answered: is sustainable mining good business?

ERM will lead a panel discussion with industry leaders and specialists from the finance sector. The panel will look at:
• What sustainable mining looks like at key stages in the mineral development cycle – including exploration and mine closure;
• How the concept and practice of sustainable mining continues to evolve, and what it means to a company’s bottom line; and
• Discuss how practices must evolve to ensure a return on investment and alignment with stakeholder expectations.

ERM’s panelists will share their perspectives on the current state of sustainable mining, with examples of the technological and performance innovation their companies have applied.

The session will be moderated be Louise Pearce, Global Managing Partner for the Mining Sector at ERM. Attendees will be invited to join ERM and the panelists for a short cocktail reception following the discussion.

Registration is preferred, but not required. For more information and to register, contact Navita Khokha at [email protected]
